Library Gift Policy

     No. 2-4      Rev.   Date 4-20-77

POLICY

A. The Stewart Library has the responsibility and authority to accept donations for inclusion in the Library's collections.

B. Materials given to the Library become the legal property of the University and may be used in whatever way deemed most beneficial to the institution.  Books which are not included in the Library's collection may be given to other libraries or institutions, traded, sold or, in some cases, discarded.

C. Donors will be asked to fill out an Instrument of Gift form which identifies the gift and outlines any restrictions or conditions concerning the donation.

D. Donations of gift books will be acknowledged by letter to the donor if the name and address of the donor is known.  Upon request, the letter may include the dollar value of those gift books that are listed in library sources such as Books in Print or American Book Prices Current.  It will be the responsibility of the donor to estimate the values of those books for which a definite price is not available.  The Library will not list the value of books that are marked as examination copies or complimentary copies from publishers.

E. Gift plates which include the donor's name will be placed in each gift book selected for inclusion in the collection unless the donor designates otherwise.  Dedicatory book plates may also be used.
