Discover More Activities at the Planetarium

From gravity to spectroscopy, learn about the universe with engaging presentations and activities that anyone can enjoy to complete your trip to the planetarium.

Solar System Tours

Join us for a personalized tour of our solar system, as one of our educators will fly you through space to explore and learn about our sun and all the planets ー including Pluto.

Demonstrations

  • Moon Phases: In a live 3D model, watch the Moon’s motion around Earth and see why the Moon’s phases change in our sky.
  • Season Cards: Using cards and a light source, experiment with how different angles of sunlight hitting the Earth’s surface cause the seasons to change.
  • Mars 3D Books: Travel to the surface of Mars and study its landscape through a 3D lens using real pictures taken by Mars rovers.
  • Expanding Universe: Blow up a balloon model to see how galaxies move away from each other as the universe expands and how light waves stretch from expansion.
  • Emission Spectroscopy: Explore the unique colors of light that come from different elements, and how emission lines can be used to identify them.
  • Gravity Well: Discover the nature of gravity as curved spacetime with our interactive gravity well that shows how mass and speed affect orbits.

Art Projects

Planispheres

The night sky is full of wonder. Discover the stars and constellations within it by creating your own planisphere to take home and use.

Make Your Own Constellations

Constellations are full of life and stories. Recreate them using paper cups and poking star patterns into them, then shining a light through to project your constellations wherever you'd like.

Constellation Booklets

Create your own constellation booklet to take home, where you can learn about a constellation and read a story associated with it.
