American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification

The American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Certification (BOC) is the gold standard for certification of medical laboratory personnel.

In order to maximize earning potential, students will want to become certified with the ASCP. In addition, many healthcare laboratories settings will not hire non-certified laboratory personnel.

One month prior to graduation, students are eligible to start their ASCP exam application process, as follows:

  • Successful graduates from the Associate of Applied Science Medical Laboratory Technician program may sit for the ASCP MLT certification exam, via Route 1.
  • Successful graduates from the Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Sciences may sit for the ASCP MLS certification exam, via Route 1.
  • Also, students who successfully complete MLS 1010 Core Clinical Practices or MLS 1113 Intro Laboratory Practices course may be able to qualify for MLA ASCP certification via Route 6 (with required work experience).
