Japanese Highlights

In addition to your classroom study of Japanese, you’ll have the opportunity to work in the community or study abroad to practice your language skills in real-life settings.

  • Study Abroad in Japan: Experience immersive learning through short-term and long-term exchange programs at partner universities across Japan.
  • Japan Club & Cultural Engagement: Join the active Japan Club for hands-on cultural activities, community events, and unique opportunities to explore Japanese-American history right here in Utah.
  • Community Internships & Alumni Connections: Build professional skills through community-based internships and connect directly with alumni and upperclassmen for mentorship and networking.

What You’ll LEARN at Weber

You will develop your skills in speaking, reading and writing Japanese. By the end of the program, you will have learned to speak Japanese at an intermediate-low level.

Graduates of the Japanese program apply their language proficiency and cultural knowledge across a wide range of rewarding career paths in Japan, North America, and globally:

  • Careers in Japan & Global Tech: Many students participate in the Boston Career Forum to land positions in Japan, using their degrees in Computer Science and other fields at top-tier companies (such as LINE).
  • Teaching & Exchange Programs: Pursue teaching opportunities through the JET Program and other English teaching positions across Japan, or teach Japanese in the U.S.
  • Translation, Interpretation & Public Service: Work in local government coordination, international relations, translation, and interpretation.
  • U.S. & International Careers: Excel in diverse roles including museum curation, travel and hospitality, international business, and graduate studies.
