Studying Elementary and Special Education at Weber State

Weber State’s elementary and special education degree prepares teacher candidates to work with a wide range of students in various classroom settings. Upon successful completion of the program, individuals are eligible to receive recommendations for an Elementary (K-8) and/or Special Education (Mild/Moderate K-12) license.

Elementary and Special Education Highlights

While earning your elementary and special education degree, you can earn an endorsement in dual language immersion, middle school mathematics teaching, or English as a second language. For individuals seeking to teach junior high, you will be required to select a teaching minor from your content area of interest.

You can also meet your peers and join networking opportunities and attend events through Weber State’s Council for Exceptional Children and/or Educators Rising.

Beyond the Classroom

As an elementary and special education major, you’ll engage in multiple field experiences (practicum and student-teaching) each semester to practice the skills needed to become an exceptional educator.

Gabriela Rosas Calderon

Class of 2024

"In elementary school, I looked up to my teachers as role models. I wanted to be like that when I grew up. My counselors told me Weber State had the best teacher education program. I’d been to Weber for conferences and events, and I did a campus tour. Just walking through the buildings, the environment spoke to me."

What You’ll LEARN at Weber

Graduates will be able to demonstrate mastery of their chosen subject matter, work in a classroom with students who have special learning needs and/or disabilities, plan curriculum, integrate technology into instruction, and foster communication in various classroom settings. The elementary and special education degree promotes collaboration and reflection by encouraging networking and peer evaluation to improve their professional teaching practice.

What You CAN DO After Weber

Faculty Perspective

My favorite part of engaging with students in the program is seeing them utilize the concepts and methodologies they have learned in our courses in their practicum and student teaching experiences.

DeeDee Mower

I love seeing student growth. They show such conscious improvement in their planning and implementing curriculum.
