Course Materials

The textbook and associated course content are delivered to you through Canvas once you gain access. There is no additional charge for these materials and nothing else to purchase. You are encouraged to download and print the textbook pages for each unit if you desire a hard copy. The textbook was created with open source materials and contains no copyright restrictions.

Any needed course materials are provided through Canvas and are free of cost.

The materials for this course are open source and provided to students at no cost through the course in Canvas. No textbook purchase is required for this course. The textbook is a faculty-developed, open educational resource provided free to students. You can use the provided electronic format or print the text (at a cost to the student).

The textbook for HTHS 1110 Integrated Anatomy and Physiology I is provided to the students at no cost. From 2020 to April 2024, it was located in a Box folder accessible through the Canvas course. As of May 2025, it is available on the Utah Educational Network PressBooks website. The electronic version is free; if a student wants a printed version, then a PDF is provided and the student can have it printed at their own expense. Previously, the textbook was $300. To date, students have saved $2.5 million in textbook costs with our open education resource (OER) option and 86% of students say that a free textbook is either "somewhat important" or "very important" in their decision to take HTHS 1110-1111 compared to other courses.

A software program called Visible Body Courseware is used to provide several key lab components. The cost is less than $50 and it provides access for a calendar year. Students should wait until the launch of the Canvas course and at that time they will be given instructions and a coupon code that reduces the cost of the software. It is available either directly for the coupon price or at a slightly higher cost from the bookstore.

HTHS 1111 Integrated Anatomy and Physiology II utilizes a textbook that is part of our department's goal of open educational materials. As of May 2025, the textbook is available on the Utah Educational Network PressBooks website. The electronic version is free; if a student wants a printed version, then a pdf is provided and the student can have it printed at their own expense. The text and accompanying slide sets can be downloaded and used on personal computers, mobile phones and tablets. 

Visible Body is used to provide several key lab components. Access to Visible Body, typically purchased for HTHS 1110, is good for a year and does not need to be repurchased or renewed unless the access period has expired.

Case Studies in Health Sciences uses a study-guide that is free to our students. The primary course materials are the study-guide and the slides that can serve as the textbook for the course. These are free to our students. The cases are presented electronically and are also no charge to the student.
