have a question—see some of our answers below or contact us for further information

How many students apply to the Dental Hygiene program each year?

Approximately 100 applications are reviewed each year for 30 positions within the new class.

What criteria are most important when applying to the program?

It's always important to have good grades in college. Your science grade-point average (GPA) and overall GPA are factored into the review process. To get a full view and understanding of requirements please speak with an Advisor in the Office of Admissions Advisement.

Do I have to have dental assisting experience?

It's very important to know what you're getting into when you choose a career path. We encourage you to have dental experience if you're considering this health professions field.

Does the Dental Hygiene program have a part time option?

No. The program is a "lock-step" design where students are admitted and continue through the program together, as a class. It is an on-campus program and considered full-time.

If I went to a different dental hygiene program and want to earn an advanced degree (baccalaureate degree) is that possible at Weber State?

Yes. We have a degree completion option in which a licensed dental hygienist applies to Weber State University and completes a contract of study with the Dental Hygiene Department Chair, taking upper-division credits to complete a Bachelor of Science degree. For further information, please contact our office.
