In CS 6740 Computer Systems Security, students complete a hands-on security project by choosing 3-5 of the top 20 CIS security controls to research. After researching the chosen security controls they then choose one control to focus on and implement in a test environment of their own creation. Students have completed a variety of projects including implementing fully automatic on-site and off-site backup solutions, implementing a proxy web-service for content filtering and security monitoring, installing and configuring host-based and network-based firewall solutions and many other real-world implementations. Weber State University also hosts a cybersecurity competition club that is open to all students. No experience is necessary to participate, learn penetration testing and ethical hacking skills, and have fun!
