Beginning PowerPoint

In this tutorial, we will discuss what PowerPoint is so that we better understand what to use it for. We will learn how to open a presentation in PowerPoint, and how to run that presentation as a slide show. Finally, we will learn how to close a presentation and exit the PowerPoint program.

Creating a Presentation

PowerPoint presentations are a great way to break down large amounts of information, allowing a presenter the ability to easily share that information with illustrations, short statements, and facts. In this tutorial we will go through the process of creating a presentation from start to finish, beginning with planning our presentation, then adding slides, text, and transitions, and ending by saving.

PowerPoint Modifications

The ability to modify a presentation in PowerPoint is an integral aspect, ensuring the presentation is of professional quality. In this video, we will learn about PowerPoint modifications, specifically, using the spell checker and the thesaurus. We will discuss slide management, and learn how to rearrange, copy, duplicate, and separate slides. We will also learn about finding and replacing text and modifying placeholders for text. Lastly, we will learn how to customize the Quick Access Toolbar.

Formatting Slides

Formatting your presentation slides is what makes your presentation stand out and look professional. For this tutorial we will take you through the process of formatting your slides, which will include learning font & paragraph spacing, creating and customizing columns, and customizing bullets. Additionally, we will demonstrate how to modify design themes and how to create custom backgrounds for slides. Lastly, we will take you through the process of building custom design themes.

Inserting Elements

In this video, you will create a PowerPoint on the Solar System. You will insert an image from your computer, and from the internet. You will then format those images to match the style of your presentation. You will also insert a shape with text, and apply shape styles, effects, and WordArt styles. After that, you will insert a text box and change the color of the text, the font size and weight, and apply a text effect. You will also insert SmartArt, fill it with text, and change the colors and appearance of the SmartArt styles. Lastly, you will learn how to delete any empty placeholders.

Creating Tables, Charts, and SmartArt Graphics

Using tables, charts, and SmartArt is an excellent way to display information so your audience can quickly understand your point. In this tutorial, we will first show you how to insert and change the style of a table. Next, we will demonstrate how to insert and add data to a chart. Lastly, we show how to insert SmartArt and add text to your slides.

Applying Custom Animations and Shows

In this video, we will look at a slideshow with animations applied to its items and see how they can add to your presentation. We will then add animations to a presentation, as well as effects. Next, we will use the animation pane to make adjustments to animations, and change the start and duration of animations.

Screenshot Tool

The Screenshot tool in PowerPoint allows you to quickly capture and import pictures of your screen into your presentation. In this tutorial, students will add images to a slideshow giving a presentation on their respective file managers: File Explorer for Windows and Finder for Mac. They will take screenshots of the file manager, then import and place those screenshots in the presentation.
