In this tutorial, we show how to use the Spelling and Grammar Checker to find synonyms for words, fix misspelled words, and correct sentence structure mistakes. We will also use the Help feature to find any formatting tool for the document.

Headers, Footers, and Backgrounds

Headers, Footers, and Backgrounds aid both in functionality and overall appearance of a document. In this tutorial you will learn how to insert these elements into a document and then how to further format them in order to achieve a desired look.

Images, Shapes, Text Boxes, and WordArt

In this video, we will insert images to help readers visualize what we’re writing about. We will insert shapes to help readers see important pieces of information quickly, and we will insert text boxes to organize our text so our document stays neat. We will also insert Word Art to create a title that stands out and fits the theme of our document.

Margins and Page Orientation

In this video, we will create custom margins, and discuss the strengths and weaknesses of different page orientations in Google Docs.

In this video we are going to create a cover letter using Google Docs. We will use the WSU Career Services Cover Letter Guide as a reference to format our cover letter. We will create a letterhead with tab stops and a horizontal line to showcase our name and contact information, input the contact information of the person whose job we are applying for, write out paragraphs demonstrating our enthusiasm and qualifications for the job, and create a signature space for our letter.

Creating a Resume

In this tutorial, we will use Google Docs to make a resume that follows the recommendations of Career Services and is visually appealing, well organized, and easy to understand. We will explore the Career Services resources, plan out what we’re going to put in a resume, and then put a resume together using tab stops, headings, and a bulleted list.

Applying Styles and Inserting a Table of Contents

In this video we will apply styles to a title, headings and subheadings, and insert a table of contents in a Google Doc.

Page and Section Breaks, Page Numbers, and Columns

In this video we will discuss the difference between a soft page break and a hard page break, insert a hard page break, insert columns, then insert a column break, and add page numbers.

Creating Diagrams with Google Drawings

In this video, we are going to create a custom diagram for our Google Doc using Google Drawings. We will create and arrange shapes on the canvas, add text to our shapes, and connect our shapes with arrows.
