Digital technologies have become an integral part of daily living. They come in all shapes and sizes to serve many purposes quickly and efficiently. Love them or hate them, computers are here to stay, and by learning how to use them you will open yourself up to more job opportunities and find greater convenience in day-to-day living.

Understanding Hardware

Although computers contain many hardware components, each serves to make carrying out the Information Processing Cycle more easy and efficient. Through all stages of the cycle–input, processing, output, and storage–there are hardware devices ready to assist. As you familiarize yourself with these devices, you will be more prepared to interact with the other important parts of a computer system: its software.

Navigating Your Computer

Software is an essential component in computer systems around the world. Through software, we are able to interact with and use computer hardware components to accomplish much. By learning how to use the basic computer software, you will be able to navigate and use your computer more effectively and efficiently and will be organized and prepared to use the more advanced application software discussed in other Computer Literacy Center videos.

Navigating MacOS Computer

We discuss the BIOS, operating system, and utility software as they relate to Apple's Mac computers. We then use the Mac operating system—macOS—to organize computer files, protect the computer, and monitor the activity of hardware.

Preparing to Buy a Computer

We will be covering a few things that you should consider when buying a computer. First, we’ll talk about the different types of computers, and then we’ll dive into how to compare each different type to each other. We’ll also discuss a few different factors to consider when you’re looking at a computer to buy. Finally, we’ll discuss how the location you purchase your computer from may impact your purchasing decision.

Computer Security

We will identify ways to protect our data against unauthorized access and computer viruses. We will also list the signs of phishing, which is one of the most common data and identification theft methods.

Navigating the Web Using an Internet Browser

Using a web browser is a very important skill to have. As technology advances, so does the internet, so being able to use a web browser is very important. You can go search up different pages, go back a page or go to the page you were just on. Learning the basics of navigating a web browser is super important, if you want to use a web browser to its full capability.

Creating and Using a Gmail-email Account

Create a Gmail account and set up the account on a desktop and a mobile device. Draft and send emails, as well as use the Gmail account with other services and apps.

Creating and Using a Social Media Account

We will create, set up, and manage a Facebook account. We will also learn how to create a Facebook page, event, and group.

Intro to Google Workspace

In this tutorial, we will use various methods to log into Google Workspace and explore the dashboard, as well as briefly explore the applications that can be accessed through Google Workspace.
