WHY WEBER STATE

Weber State was close to home and allowed me to get a high quality education, at a low price and remain close to my family. 

WHY ACCOUNTING

I initially started out as a pre-med major with plans to become an orthopedic surgeon. Shortly after getting married my priorities shifted and I needed a career that would allow me to be a present husband and father while still providing for the financial needs of my family. 

TEACHERS THAT CARE

I really appreciate the accounting teachers. They all work so hard to provide us with the best education possible and prepare us to be successful CPAs. 

PROFESSOR IMPACT

I attribute my love for accounting to Lisa Hopkins. I was still undecided on my major as I was new to the college of business. My very first class with Lisa was unforgettable. Her passion for the profession was evident and the material just clicked. I knew that I needed to become an accountant. Lora McDonald and Ryan Pace both helped me realize my passion for taxation and I am grateful for their diligent efforts. 

ADVICE FOR FUTURE STUDENTS

My second semester I knew that in order to balance work, school, and family commitments, I was going to need to learn how to prioritize my time well. I created what I call my prioritization sheets. On every Monday morning at 5 am I would grab a blank piece of paper and title it my "Prioritization Sheet" with the date as well. I would go class by class and record each assignment that was due that week. I would write the due date in red next to each assignment. I would then think about my week and pencil in, next to each assignment, the day and time I would be complete that assignment and how long it was going to take me. I attribute my success in maintaining a high GPA as well as my ability to be involved in many activities outside of school to these prioritization sheets. 

WHAT'S NEXT

I just wrapped up my first tax season and absolutely loved working at Pack Tax. This summer I will continue to operate my window cleaning company and look forward to being back at Pack Tax next year for another great tax season. 

GRATITUDE

I would like to thank my wife for supporting me and helping me be successful. She is my rock and I simply wouldn't be in this position today without her. I would also like to thank my mom for pushing me when I was younger to be a great student and always know that I am capable of great things.
