WSU Participates in Holiday Giving

OGDEN, Utah —Weber State University is hosting several programs and events to help meet the needs of community members during the holidays.

Student groups, departments and offices on campus are making it easy to positively impact the lives of others through food drives and gift collections for families and veterans.

“The holiday programs we've assisted in developing for the WSU community help our northern Utah nonprofit organizations during some of their busiest months of the year,” said Mike Moon, assistant director of WSU’s Center for Community Engaged Learning (CCEL). “The efforts and generous assistance of the campus community will help organizations provide support to the people in our communities.”

The Center for Community Engaged Learning has set up an Angel Tree in the Shepherd Union Atrium at the Ogden campus and at Weber State University Davis.  Each tag on the tree represents a deserving child in need of a Christmas sponsor. Unwrapped gifts should be brought to Shepherd Union, Room 327 or WSU Davis Building 3, Suite 221 by Dec. 11.

Veterans Upward Bound is supporting service members with “Shoeboxes for Veterans.” Donated items are delivered to local veterans in homeless shelters and nursing homes. Shoeboxes can be delivered to the Veterans Upward Bound office, Annex 12, by Dec. 10.

The Goddard School of Business & Economics clubs are working together to provide Christmas presents for two families. They are collecting gifts and other items to sponsor a total of nine children.

Every year, WSU Women’s Center provides holiday assistance to students who are single parents. Students who have applied for help will receive holiday gifts to give to their children.

Weber State will provide volunteers to help with the “Santa United” registration process on Nov. 27 and 30. Sponsored by United Way, Santa United provides presents to children in Ogden who would otherwise go without. Volunteers are still needed to help register families at the Weber County Library, 2462 Jefferson Avenue, Ogden.

Weber Cares has held multiple food drives to help provide holiday meals to students and their families. The food pantry, located in Shepherd Union Room 402, is open five days a week for students to fill a bag with needed food. On Nov. 30 from 7-9 p.m., the WSU Bowling Alley will be free, with the exception of a $2 shoe rental fee. Each time a bowler gets a spare or a strike, a quarter or a can will be donated to the Weber Cares Food Pantry.
