NUAMES Charter High School Expands to WSU’s Ogden Campus

OGDEN, Utah – Beginning fall semester 2018, the Northern Utah Academy for Math, Engineering & Science (NUAMES) will expand to educate 200 additional students, grades 10-12, on Weber State University’s Ogden campus.

For more than 10 years, NUAMES has partnered with WSU, to provide a rigorous, supportive, early college education to 750 students on the WSU Davis campus in Layton.

“Weber State and NUAMES have a shared vision of preparing students for success in college and careers, particularly those engineering and technology careers in high demand in Northern Utah,” said Bruce Davis, vice provost of academic affairs, who has helped oversee the partnership.

NUAMES North, as the Ogden location will be known, will make its home primarily in the Lind Lecture Hall. Eventually, the charter school will be housed in the Noorda Engineering & Technology building, which will be built to replace the Technical Education Building. NUAMES will contribute $7.5 million toward construction.

“NUAMES would not have been able to have the success we have had without our Weber State University partnership,” said Kelli Booth, NUAMES executive director. “Our students have the unique opportunity to have a quality early college experience right on a college campus. We appreciate all those who helped facilitate this expansion allowing more students this opportunity.”

More than half of NUAMES’ students go on to attend Weber State, and more than half of the seniors earn a WSU associate’s degree upon high school graduation. The Utah Pace Report Card has recognized NUAMES as the No. 1 high school in Utah for the past five years.

“Having NUAMES on campus helps the university build strong relationships with these high-potential students,” Davis said. “We have a pipeline of students who are motivated to pursue higher education.”

A few student spaces are still available in the new Ogden location. For information on enrolling email sdavis@dsdmail.net.
