'Experience Weber' Pineview Stay Welcomes New Students

OGDEN, Utah – Classes, schedules, studying and stress are part of the university experience, but so are fun and friends. Weber State University is offering students a chance to celebrate before hitting the books with water activities and an overnight camp.

First year, second year and transfer students are invited to attend the “Experience Weber” overnight adventure at Pineview Reservoir, Aug. 26 and 27. The camp, hosted by WSU's Campus Recreation Outdoor Program, is intended to help students meet new friends and see what the mountains and waterways of Utah have to offer. The trip includes stand-up paddle boarding, kayaking, giant water inflatables and meals, along with the overnight stay.

"We want to make sure that all new and transfer students feel welcome,” said Hayley Prine, Outdoor Program coordinator. “We want there to be something for everyone and someone to talk to. We want to make sure that people of all personalities and backgrounds feel welcome and are able to connect with someone.”

Students will have the opportunity to meet and interact with faculty and staff members over dinner that evening in an informal setting. This will give them a chance to connect with more people on campus and get more comfortable with their new environment.

The cost is $40 and includes equipment, transportation, camping gear and meals. In light of recent COVID restrictions, tents will be socially distanced.
