Corp Encore Drum Corp Performance Returns to WSU

OGDEN, Utah – Weber State University’s Stewart Stadium will light up as Corps Encore brings several of the nation’s top drum and bugle corps to Utah for a one-night competition July 30.

The competition, organized by Ascend Performing Arts, is the only Utah stop on Corps Encore’s West Coast tour and gives many of the drum corps a chance to practice their craft and refine their performances in front of their loyal supporters before heading east for a series of competitions, ending with the Drum Corps International World Championship Finals in Indiana.

The gates open at 5 p.m, and the featured competition among the traveling groups will begin at 7:30 p.m.

“This year is particularly exciting as last year's show was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Gregory Kuzma, director of operations at Ascend Performing Arts.  “The drum corps performers are eager to get back on the field again and wow audiences with their high intensity shows that are a joy for music fans of all ages.”

This year there are four participating groups: The Battalion, Salt Lake City, Utah; Blue Knights, Denver, Colorado; Mandarins, Sacramento, California; Troopers, Casper, Wyoming.

Sponsors include Standard-Examiner, Imagination Company, Swire Coca-Cola, Mansell Real Estate, APM Mortgage, McDonald’s, Visit Ogden, Xerox, and Walker Edison.

The public is welcome. Tickets start at $20. For more information about the event and clinics, as well as for ticketing information, visit ascendperformingarts.org.
