38th Crystal Crest Awards Celebrate Achievement of WSU Student, Faculty, Staff

OGDEN, Utah – Even in a time of social distancing, Weber State University is finding a way to celebrate the contributions of outstanding WSU students, faculty and staff with the 38th Crystal Crest Awards.

Created in 1982, the awards are traditionally a formal affair complete with entertainment, food and music. Although COVID-19 prevented the in-person event, the importance of recognizing the winners was still a priority to the Weber State community and organizers. Award recipients are listed on the Crystal Crest website weber.edu/crystalcrest where their achievements are highlighted.

“The awards recognize individuals and groups for outstanding work that has taken years to accomplish,” said Tara Peris, event organizer and director of Student Involvement and Leadership. “Although the event was changed this year, the quality of the honorees is as impressive as ever.”

Crystal Crest is WSU’s crowning awards ceremony, honoring individuals and organizations in 13 categories, including achievement, service, athletics, teaching, scholarship, leadership and talent.

“Crystal Crest brings the campus and community together,” Peris said, “It gives us a chance to celebrate Weber State’s history of excellence and honor the contributions of talented, smart, caring people and groups within the WSU community.”

This year’s student winners include: Kylee Treseder (Volunteer Service), Jonah Williams (Male Athletic Achievement), Takesha Saltern (Female Athletic Achievement), Yuqi Liu (Talent of the Year), Liz Homez (Excellence in Inclusivity), Armand Berry (Wildcat Achievement), Tyler David Browning (Scholar of the Year), Rachel Creer (Woman of the Year), and Kade Crittenden (Man of the Year).

Staff, faculty and campus groups were also honored. Winners include Teresa Martinez (Friend of Students), David Aguilar-Alvarez (Master Teacher), WSU Energy & Sustainability Office and the Sustainability Practices and Research Center (Presidential Award), and Weber State Hockey Club (Registered Organization of the Year).
