‘Shine Your Light’ at the 19th WSU Gospel Festival

OGDEN, Utah – Weber State University’s Diversity & Inclusive Programs invites the public to attend the 19th annual Gospel Music Festival Jan. 25 from 7:30-9:30 p.m. at the Browning Center Austad Auditorium.

Ogden's KIDS Are MUSIC children's choir will be returning
to perform this year.

The theme this year, “Shine Your Light,” is a reminder that throughout the challenges and obstacles of life, everyone has light that can help illuminate the paths of others.

“Gospel music radiates the spirit of hope and resiliency through the power of storytelling,” said Andrea Hernández, Diversity & Inclusive Programs coordinator. “It is a significant form of art, deeply rooted in culture and history, that can be used to bring the community together.”

Six choirs are currently scheduled to perform at the festival designed to educate and celebrate cultural enrichment. Gospel music contains spiritual messages and oral histories shared during the time of slavery and has heavily influenced contemporary music.

WSU’s gospel festival began as a one-time community event in 2000. The festival has evolved into an annual campus and community tradition to celebrate the new year and Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

The event is free to the public. Donations of canned or non-perishable food items for the Weber Cares Pantry are encouraged. The Weber Cares Pantry provides assistance to WSU students, faculty and staff who are experiencing food insecurity or need resources such as personal hygiene items.
