Davis Chamber Announces Weber State University as its 2016 Legacy Award Winner

Kaysville, Utah – The Davis Chamber of Commerce announced that its Executive Board has chosen Weber State University as the recipient of this year’s Legacy Award.  The Legacy Award is given to a person or organization that has had a significant positive impact on Davis County, sustained over years.

“Weber State University has long been an integral part of our community in Davis County. The university is an essential partner in our support of Hill Air Force Base, in preparing the workforce of the future, and in our economic development efforts,” said Angie Osguthorpe, President and CEO of the Davis Chamber of Commerce.

Weber State University has steadily grown its presence in Davis County, beginning with classes at Hill AFB in 1970, then moving off the base into a succession of centers in Clearfield and Layton, and culminating in the opening of the first classroom building on the 106-acre Weber State University Davis campus in 2003. Since that time, Weber State has added another classroom building and a Center for Continuing Education at the Davis campus. Enrollment has grown to more than 3,600 university students and another 750 high school students at the Northern Utah Academy for Math, Engineering, and Science, an early college high school located at the Davis campus.

This past fall, Weber State opened a new higher education center at Station Park in Farmington. This center, known as Weber State Farmington Station, offers professional and executive education programs, such as the Executive Masters of Health Administration program, as well as evening and daytime courses for regular university students.

The Legacy Award will be presented at the Davis Chamber Annual Awards Banquet being held the evening of Friday, January 22, 2016 at the Davis Conference Center.  A special tribute is planned.  The public is invited to this black-tie-optional event, but RSVP’s are required.  Contact the Chamber at 801-593-2200 to RSVP.
