Before officially assuming his role on Aug. 1, WSU President Chris Mallett made a special trip to Ogden from Portland, Maine, to attend the Lindquist Family Symphony Pops Concert on July 12.

Mallett arrived early to greet dozens of alumni representing multiple generations, along with current faculty, staff, and students. This year, the event shifted from fireworks to a high-tech aerial show featuring 500 drones that lit up the sky over Ada Lindquist Plaza, while staying true to tradition with a live orchestral performance by the New American Philharmonic and cannons provided by the Cannoneers of the Wasatch.

Mallett stayed in Utah a couple of extra days to attend the Ogden Pioneer Days President’s Picnic, an annual summer tradition where WSU faculty and staff come together for food and fun. This year’s gathering featured a photo booth, a DJ from KWCR Wildcat Radio, lawn games, and raffle prizes.

The Weber We Want: How getting involved at Weber State shapes your experience

Getting involved at Weber State University is one of the most important steps a student can take to enhance their college experience. While academics are the foundation and the reason why a student chooses to take on higher education, true growth comes from what happens outside of the classroom. By joining a club, participating in school events, joining student government, partaking in a service activity, joining intramural sports, auditioning for a production, or showing up to an athletic event with the best Wildcat pride, you are building a meaningful connection that will make campus feel like home. Milestones Reached

I’ve been thinking a lot about growth. With the launch of the Amplify Weber State campaign, the university is setting its sights on unprecedented growth over the next five years. Even amid uncertainty, Weber State continues to move forward with momentum, reaching an all-time high enrollment in fall 2025 and awarding a record number of credentials during the 2024–25 academic year.

That momentum is clearly reflected in the John B. Goddard School of Business & Economics. In the 2025–26 academic year, we’ve reached several new milestones. Our Goddard Student Ambassador team grew to a record 15 members, while the entrepreneurship ambassador team (Weber Entrepreneurs) now includes eight students. Our annual WeberBiz Case Competition welcomed a record 150 high school participants in the fall, and student clubs continue to expand rapidly, several hitting record enrollments.

Many of our college events have seen standing-room only attendance this year, and we saw an 8% increase in business major enrollments.

There’s an unmistakable energy in the Goddard School — one that makes it feel like anything is possible. As we continue to grow, we’re eager to create meaningful opportunities for our students to connect with WeberBiz alumni. The Weber State Alumni Association offers a directory of alumni-owned businesses on its website. On Feb. 5, 2026, the Alumni Association posted about directory business Mtn. Green Animal Hospital, owned by WSU alum Nicole Sorensen, at facebook.om/WSUAlumniAssociation.

After earning her Zoology degree at Weber State as a pre-vet student, Nicole accomplished her dream of becoming a veterinarian and opening her own hospital—crediting Weber State’s business-focused education and small business startup resources for helping her overcome obstacles and make her dream a reality. “Weber State has been such a major stepping stone in my story,” she said.
