Dogs rule in downtown Ogden
Weber State might be the home of the Wildcats, but dogs and the people that love them have their own event to show off their purple pride.
Since 2021, the Purple Paw Parade has served as a Homecoming tradition in Ogden. Created by Weber State Associate Director of Alumni Relations Amber Robson and Amir Jackson, then WSU Alumni Board of Directors member and current development director, the parade serves to bolster the Make Ogden Purple initiative, designed to help establish and cultivate a college-town culture in Ogden.
“The Purple Paw Parade draws a passionate crowd of pet lovers, business owners, and people all across Utah with community pride together to draw attention to Weber State,” said Cassidy Miller, WSU alumni marketing coordinator.
The annual parade of pooches begins at the Ogden Amphitheater in downtown Ogden, winds down Kiesel Avenue to 23rd Street, and ends at Weber State Downtown on Washington Boulevard. Participants receive special Weber treats and gear for themselves and their four-legged friends.
“It’s fun to see all the different breeds of dogs in one place,” Miller said. “But the best part of the Purple Paw Parade is being able to engage with so many people at once.”
The event regularly draws hundreds of participants. Last year, 260 people participated at Weber State Downtown despite the walk being cancelled due to inclement weather.
The 2026 Purple Paw Parade will be held Oct. 10. Registration will begin in August and is free to all. Participants can visit alumni.weber.edu for more information or stop by the WSU Alumni booth at Farmers Market Ogden’s final summer market to register. Those who join the parade without registration will not receive free swag.
