E-Bike Community Program
The Weber State Sustainability Home and Department of Environmental Quality are partnering to bring e-bike vouchers to individuals across Utah. Starting September 14, apply to get either $400 or $800 off a new e-bike!
Why get an e-bike?
Now more than ever, Utah residents are looking for different transportation options. An e-bike can be a great alternative to driving a car, giving you an extra boost of power to get you where you need to go and reducing air pollution while doing it.
Are you eligible?
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- You must apply and be approved to participate (see application steps below). Purchases made before you get approved are not eligible.
- You must agree to the Terms and Conditions of the program.
How it works:
Step 1: Submit a quick eligibility application
Step 2: After approval, agree to safety information within 2 weeks
Step 3: After receiving your voucher, purchase the e-bike from an approved store within 4 weeks
- E-bikes (Short for electric bikes) are bicycles that combine standard pedal power with propulsion from an electric motor.
- E-bikes allow riders to travel longer distances, minimize effort, and overall commute and recreate more conveniently.

Benefits of E-Bikes:
- Travel More: Use up to 90% less energy than traditional incandescent bulbs
- Minimize Effort: Quality, ENERGY STAR rated LED bulbs can last 3-5 times longer than CFLs and up to 30 times longer than incandescent bulbs
- Drive Less: Switching to LED lighting can save the average household about $225 per year in energy costs

Key Considerations:
- Brightness: LED bulbs measure brightness by lumens instead of watts, like an incandescent bulb. The higher the lumen rating is, the brighter the light will be.
- Light Temperature: LEDs come in a variety of light temperatures from warm, yellow light to cool, blue light. Warm light is typically preferred for living spaces and cool light for office and work spaces.
- Features: Common features include color changing options, mobile app controls, and dimming capabilities.
- Lighting Controls: Consider pairing LED lights with motion sensors or timers to maximize energy and cost savings.

Cost Breakdown:
- Average cost of basic LED light bulbs: $2-$10
- Average cost of smart or color changing bulbs: $15-25
Climate Impact:
- Lighting makes up about 15-20% of electricity use in buildings
- Switching to efficient LED lighting reduces emissions by lowering the amount of electricity used
