Nikki, MBA '20

“I felt encouraged, heard, safe, cared for and important.”

Why Weber?

I decided to attend Weber State because it was affordable with tuition costs and close to home. I could live with my parents, work full-time and pursue college without a housing expense or any student loans.

Why Business Administration?

The decision to attend the Goddard School of Business was twofold.  First, my work experience provided many years of industry familiarity, which I found intriguing and a desire to learn more. Second, my employer at the time encouraged a business degree as it would open various areas to find success.

Activities at Weber?

I became a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma, which is an international business honor society. At our induction ceremony, I was given the privilege to be a keynote speaker. This was a HUGE step out of my comfort zone. Through preparing and speaking, I was able to find confidence in myself and grow to become more comfortable speaking to large groups of people.

Incredible Access

I have so many wonderful experiences before, during and after obtaining my degree with the faculty and staff at Weber State. When I was considering Weber State, I met with an academic advisor who was supportive and very knowledgeable. Their assistance made mapping out my goals and graduation date seamless.

Many professors had an open door policy where you could receive one-on-one instruction. The professors go above and beyond expectations by creating trust with their students. I felt encouraged, heard, safe, cared for and important.

To this day, I could reach out to one of my past professors or faculty members and receive the same treatment, concern and care as if I were currently enrolled.

Advice

My advice for incoming students would be:

  • Take full advantage of the academic advising services.  Meet with your academic advisor at least once annually throughout your time at Weber State.
  • Networking is critical in today’s world – it is imperative to get to know your professors and classmates.
  • Take advantage of the ample amount of free services provided, including tutoring services.
  • Group projects can be a pain, but embrace differences among the members. You can always learn something positive or negative from every group project.

Where are you now?

I currently work at Hill AFB as a Logistics Management Specialist. The Goddard School has allowed me to bring about many individual talents and skills I was unaware of or did not possess prior to attending college. I have become more comfortable with public speaking, enhancing leadership skills and participating in class. These skills have carried over into my day-to-day relations within the workplace and have provided me with opportunities for advancement within my career.
