Human Trafficking & Exploitation Symposium

Community, Connection, & Support

The 2025 Human Trafficking and Exploitation Symposium at Weber State University was held on Oct. 21, 2025. The symposium addressed human trafficking and other forms of exploitation, such as sextortion and internet grooming. The goal of this year's symposium was to bring together community partners to discuss ways to support those who have been exploited in the state of Utah. We hope that this year's symposium resulted in attendees becoming active agents of ongoing social change for those most vulnerable in our communities. As attendees engaged in the symposium, we hope you were able to:

  • Deepen awareness of various forms of human trafficking and exploitation.
  • Build familiarity with resources available to support survivors of human trafficking and exploitation.
  • Understand the importance of trauma-informed approaches when interacting with survivors of human trafficking and exploitation.
  • Emerge empowered to take action to impact human trafficking and exploitation (at the individual and/or community levels).

Certificate of Completion: By attending this symposium, participants are eligible to receive a certificate of completion. This certificate can be used for four in-service hours of Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) for law enforcement officers. Alternatively, participants can pursue professional development hours or licensure requirements affiliated with your profession using this certificate. To request a certificate of completion, contact Justin Lee (justinlee6@weber.edu).

This event would not be possible were it not for the partnership between the College of Social Sciences & Education and the Department of Criminal Justice.
