Young Powersports
A CASE IN E-COMMERCE

3 CURRICULUM FOCUS AREAS

marketing, entrepreneurship, supply chain

CASE BRIEF:

Young Powersports (YP) is a large powersports group in Utah and Idaho with eight stores representing all powersports brands. In a recent market analysis, YP discovered that they are losing many customers to online parts competitors.  From this discovery, they launched an online parts, accessories and apparel e-commerce site in order to retain customers.  With strong and established online competition, gaining market share in this area has been a challenge. One way they have tried to address this is through the creation of their own YP branded goggles, whip flags, tie downs, and gloves at a competitive price point. In addition to breaking into the online space, having cross-store functionality across all eight locations to fulfill orders for delivery and pick-up has also been an issue. Between all eight stores, YP sells roughly 500 to 700 machines a month.

A CASE IN ECONOMICS & MARKETING

3 CURRICULUM FOCUS AREAS

international trade, outdoor recreation & sustainability, marketing

CASE BRIEF:

Green RV Solutions, a veteran owned company, provides solar and battery solutions for recreational vehicles including RVs, trailers, vans, and more. The company's goal is to help outdoor enthusiasts reduce their dependence on generators and provide clean, renewable, electric energy as an alternative. As a new company entering a complex market, Green RV Solutions has discovered that in order to gain industry share with a high-end target market, customer education about the long-term benefits of using professional installation of high-quality solar panels and batteries over DIY projects and cheap parts is critical to their long-term success and growth. Additionally, they are currently facing a pricing and sourcing challenge due to tariffs from China.
