Utah ELEVATE
English Learner Empowerment Via Advanced Teacher Education
Learn how to improve your teaching instruction for English learners with this free online program. Earn your ESL endorsement in one year, and advance your skills in second-language acquisition, ESL methodologies, literacy strategies and more. The cost of this program is free thanks to a five-year National Professional Development grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Education to the Jerry & Vickie Moyes College of Education's teacher education department.
To apply you must:
- Provide your previous college experience.
- Explain your interest in and expectations for Utah ELEVATE.
- Share how you think English learner needs should be met.
Course Sequence:
1st Summer (2nd Block)
- Second Language Acquisition: Theories and Implementation (EDUC 6250)
- Strategies and Methodology of Teaching ESL (MENG 6410)
Fall
- Literacy Strategies for Teaching English Language Learners (EDUC 6270)
- English Syntax and Phonology for ESL Teachers (MENG 6420)
Spring
- Field Experience in ESL/Bilingual Education (EDUC 5770)
- Diversity in Education (EDUC 6020)
2nd Summer (1st Block)
- Foundations of Teaching for Cultural and Language Differences (EDUC 6420)
- ESL/Bilingual Assessment: Theories, Methods and Practices (MENG 6450)
