Staging

Number of Testicular Cancer stages

  • Stage 1: Earliest stage of invasive testicular cancer. The cancer has not spread to nearby lymph nodes or other organs
  • Stage 2: The cancer cells have spread to nearby lymph nodes in the abdomen or pelvis. Serum tumor markers may be normal or slightly raised. Stage 2 is further divided based on the size of the lymph nodes
  • Stage 3: The cancer has metastasized to distant lymph nodes or organs. This stage is further divided into:
    • 3A Cancer is in distant lymph nodes with normal or slightly raised tumor markers
    • 3B Cancer is spread to lungs or distant lymph nodes with moderately high tumor markers
    • 3C Same as 3B but tumor marker levels are high OR the cancer has spread to another body organ such as the liver or the brain. (Stage 3C used to be defined as Stage 4 cancer)
