Building Design & Construction Program
Why Choose Building Design & Construction?
Our curriculum is enhanced with practical hands on real world experience, internships, service learning, studio courses, field trips and study abroad experiences.
The program features Hybrid, Online, and Live lecture courses. Our class sizes are small and allow an intimate learning experience. All coursework is offered at our conveniently located Davis Campus in Layton, Utah with quick and easy access via I-15 to anywhere along the Wasatch Front.
Students will have the opportunity to sit for the following certification exams as part of coursework within the program: LEED Green Associate, HBA Certified Green Professional, Autodesk Certified AutoCAD, Revit and 3Ds Max User, and Autodesk Building Performance Analyst. Upon completion of the program, you will be prepared to enter a design-build network of professions within the AEC industry and be familiar with the content of professional certification exams such as the American Institute of Building Designers (AIBD) National Council of Building Designer Certifications (NCBDC), AGC CM-BIM, and AIBD BIM-R exams.
Talent Ready Utah Grant
Department of Workforce Services announced $1.8 million in training grants. Weber State's Construction Management Technology program, under the leadership of WSU Professor Jeremy Farner, received $200,000 of that grant. DWS put together a video which features Jeremy and three of our students who work for Hughes construction, which is remodeling Woods Cross high school.
Windows of Change
In May of 2017 31 students and WSU Alumni traveled to Mozambique, Africa to build a few classrooms and a library in the village of Mahubo. Students worked on the buildings, taught classes, and shared many friendships with the wonderful people of Mozambique.
Tiny House Project
A team of seniors in WSU’s College of Engineering, Applied Science & Technology spent a year designing and building Ogden’s first net-zero “tiny studio.”
Habitat for Humanity Home for a Homeless Veteran
In a partnership with Habitat for Humanity, Weber State’s Building and students designed two homes at 129 and 141 30th Street in Ogden.

Declare Your Major
"Weber State University prepared me to transition seamlessly into the workforce due to applicable nature of lessons learned as a student. The University’s course offerings pertained directly to my current field, thus equipping me with the skills needed to successfully accomplish the duties I encounter daily."
-Jerome Meikle, BIM Specialist VCBO Architects, Class of 2017
"This program helps prepare students for the building design & construction industry. Building Information Modeling is changing the way the building design & construction industry operates and a program like this is evidence that academic programs must adapt as well. The nature of our business is increasingly technology driven and requires the ability to collaborate with many stakeholders of the design, construction, and facilities teams. I feel like this program is a huge step in the right direction."
-Nathan Nielson (BIM Manager, Superior Air Handling), Class of 2016
"I loved the focus that was put on arming me with the skills that were needed to be successful in my field. Every day I work with people who are just now discovering things I was taught while in the Building Design & Construction program, and I feel like my education there has truly set me levels ahead of my peers."
-James McClellan (VDC Engineer, Whiting-Turner Contracting Company), Class of 2016
