Claims Specialist with Social Security Administration

Social Security Administration is trying to obtain qualified candidates eligible under a Veterans Recruitment Appointment.  They are looking to hire a Veteran that meets one of the following criteria:

  • Veteran that served active duty during a campaign in which a campaign badge has been authorized.
  • A veteran who while on active duty participated in an operation that a Armed Forces Service Medal was awarded.
  • Recently separated veterans within the last three years.
  • Disabled Veteran.

The description of the position they are looking to fill as a Claims Specialist is as follows:

The incumbent candidate will perform duties as a Claims Specialist working directly with the public to assist them in applying for and determining entitlement to the programs administered by the Social Security Administration.  This requires the skills to communicate professionally and effectively orally, electronically, and in writing with a diverse population base in the community.  As a Claims Specialist the candidate will also need the ability to analyze, locate, and research SSA policy and procedures to make a correct determination on a claim for benefits.  This position gives someone the opportunity to manage a variety of different workloads including initial claims, appeals, continuing reviews and investigating potential program abuse.  The candidate also must possess the ability to interpret and apply complex laws and regulations in the processing of claims to ensure an accurate determination is made on an application for benefits.  Overall they offer a challenging yet rewarding workplace that gives someone the opportunity to serve their community while working for an Agency that offers a variety of opportunities.

Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Equipment Mechanic

Hill AFB will be using Direct Hire Authority (DHA) to immediately fill at least seven (7) Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Equipment Mechanic civilian jobs. (Civilian means that there is no military commitment.) The demand for HVAC Equipment Mechanics is continual at around 10-12 new hires per year.


  • Resumes will only be accepted from candidates with some experience, training, and/or certification in HVAC repair.
  • Inexperienced candidates are encouraged to attend a technical college to obtain skills training if they wish to enter this occupation.
  • Hill AFB will be using the federal Pathways Intern program for helper-level positions (Wage Grade 5 pay grade and below) which requires students to apply to specific announcements on USAJOBS.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Applicants must be registered for Selective Service if required.


  • Under DHA, applicants do not have to apply through USAJOBS

    • Supervisors’ name, phone number, and a “may we contact” statement
    • Detailed information about the work performed.
    • Unpaid/volunteer work experience and hands-on class projects may also be qualifying if they are relevant to the job being filled, so applicants should provide detailed descriptions of such experience on their resumes.
