Sustainability Screenings

Thursdays,  to 1:15

The Sustainability Practices and Research Center invites Weber State University students, faculty, staff, and community members to make connections through the medium of film at the Sustainability Screenings with SPARC - a series that explores sustainability issues and discusses tools and resources available to inspire concrete changes no matter how small.

The screenings are aligned with WSU Green Badge monthly themes, covering the interconnected environmental, social, and economic spheres of sustainability.

This month's screening is a short documentary about the air quality in Salt Lake City. After the documentary a TedX Talk by the creator of What's Beneath the Clouds will be shown to learn about clean air hacks around your house.

The Hypocrite

This month's screening is a short documentary that addresses the imperfect advocacy in the world of snow sports and encourages others to find a balance in doing what they love while trying to reduce their carbon footprint. The screening will be followed by a Zoom Q&A with the creator of the film, Amie Engerbretson.

Seeding Change: The Power of Conscious Commerce

This month's screening is a documentary about waste and the power that consumers have when buying items. The documentary features companies who have put the planet first in thinking about the social, environmental and economic impacts they have. After the screening will be a discussion around zero waste practices.

Common Ground

This month's screening is a documentary about food sustainability and how unjust farming practices forged our current farm system in which farmers of all colors are literally dying to feed us while also depleted the soil of its nutrients. The film profiles a hopeful and uplifting movement of white, black, and indigenous farmers who are using regenerative models of agriculture that could balance the climate and promote food sustainability in the United States. After the screening will be a discussion related to food sustainability.

This month's screening is a TED documentary about the growing impacts of climate change and the world's attempts to stop them. The documentary examines the rapid technological revolution underway - and the real possibility of a better future for all. After the screening will be a discussion about the growing impacts of the climate crisis and how technologies and innovations can offer a hopeful path to a sustainable future.
