Kirkwood Community College AAS to WSU BS in Respiratory Therapy

Kirkwood Community College students can easily transfer to Weber State after earning associate’s degrees in respiratory therapy.

Once they become Weber State students, they can take online classes while out of state to complete the Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy program.

How to Apply


  1. Complete Your Associate’s Degree

    Before transferring to Weber State, complete your Associate of Applied Science in Respiratory Therapy at Kirkwood Community College

  2. Meet the Requirements

    Along with earning your AAS, you must meet the following requirements:

    Current NBRC RRT credential

    Complete ENG-106: Composition II and a transfer-level math course prior to leaving Kirkwood (Ex: MAT-138 College Algebra with Limits or MAT-120: College Algebra

    Minimum overall GPA of 2.75

    Current AHA healthcare provider CPR and AARC membership


  3. Transfer to Weber State

    Apply to Weber State

    You can review Weber State equivalencies to Kirkwood courses on the WSU Transfer Guide.

  4. Apply to the Respiratory Therapy Program

    Complete Weber State’s Respiratory Therapy Application and pay the $25 fee.

    The online application will provide options to upload verification of your active RRT credential, AARC Membership, Reference letter and proof of you AAS in Respiratory Threapy. Your application will be reviewed and a meeting with an advisor will be arranged. Priority deadline to apply to the respiratory therapy program is May 1 of each year for a fall semester start date. However, we will continue to accept applications until we have a full class.


A total of 20 positions are available each fall semester, and each applicant is accepted on an individual first-come, first-serve basis.

Criteria considered for acceptance:

  • Overall GPA
  • Professional experience

Upon acceptance, you will have to submit the proper paperwork. You will be notified regarding the paperwork needed, which may include:

  • Background check
  • Drug screening
  • Immunizations
  • WSU Respiratory Therapy Handbook agreement

Out-of-State Respiratory Therapy Major Requirements

  • Minimum of 30 resident semester credit hours taken at Weber State University
  • Total of 120 semester credit hours
  • Minimum of 40 semester credit hours of upper division (3000 and above numbered)
  • Completion of WSU general education requirements
  • Completion of REST 4610 (1), 4620 (1) and 4630 (1) and respiratory therapy major requirements (minimum grade of C in these courses)
  • Maintaining a GPA of 2.0 or greater
  • Non Resident Online Tuition and Fees
