Economic Development

Weber State University plays a significant role in contributing to the economic vitality of the state.

Weber State Downtown opened in 2013 and serves as an epicenter for economic development, where startups, entrepreneurs, students and community members can rent space, work in a cooperative environment, and access world-class, cutting-edge technology.

WSU is also home to a Utah Science Technology and Research (USTAR) Technology Outreach Center, which helps local entrepreneurs and businesses move new products to the marketplace.

Working in partnership with leaders from the surrounding counties, WSU established WeberDavisMorgan SEED to cultivate successful entrepreneurs and support the regional economy.

In 2010, WSU convened the Aerospace Cluster Acceleration Partnership, advancing the governor’s initiative to grow and expand the aerospace and defense industry of Northern Utah. As part of that project, WSU created the Utah Center for Aeronautical Innovation & Design. The center serves the nation’s aviation and aerospace industries by conducting contracted applied scientific and engineering research for aviation industry partners and their clients.

WSU works closely with local business and industry to develop programs and degrees that meet the needs of current employers. In this role, the university not only helps employers grow but also attracts new companies to Utah.
