Pre-Requisites:
Participants should be proficient in the following basic skills or meet the listed standard:
- Tying in with a figure-8 follow through
- Top Rope belaying/ pass a TTC top rope belay test
- Pass a TTC Lead Belay test
- Ability to Top Rope climb a route graded 5.9 or harder in a gym setting
- Sport lead climbing experience is preferred
Participants should be familiar/exposed to, but not necessarily proficient, with the following intermediate skills or standards:
Skills will be assessed by trip leaders on the night of the pre-trip meeting. Participants who are already lead certified through the TTC may skip the proficiency tests.
Transport: Transportation provided
This trad climbing skills clinic is designed to take climbers to the next level. This trip is for current, active rock climbers that have a real desire to progress in their knowledge and lead climbing ability. Instructors will take participants through a progression of skills that all lead to mock leading trad routes and possible live leads! The goal is to prepare participants to lead a 5.6 trad route by the end of the trip.
For the purpose of this course participants will be focused on single pitch climbing:
- Single Pitch Is climbed without intermediate belays and presents no difficulties on approach or retreat, such as route finding, scrambling or navigating.
