FLASH FICTION CONTEST SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS 

What to Include

 

  • 12 pt. font

  • Times New Roman or Garamond 

  • Double-spaced (for fiction and creative nonfiction)

  • PDF, Microsoft Word, or Open Office format accepted

  • Make sure your name does not appear within your submission

  • Number your pages

  • Include a header with the title of your piece on each page

  • Students may submit up to three pieces

  • Include a cover page with your contact information, including name, address, phone number, and email address

  • 400-1,000 words

How to Submit

 

  • Email an electronic copy of your work to: weberstatemetaphor@gmail.com

  • Include "Flash FIction Contest" in your email subject line

  • Include your name and preferred phone number in the body of the email. This information will be used to contact you if you are a finalist in the contest

  • All submissions must be original and un-published

 

Who Can Submit

 

  • Entries are open to all English majors (including Metaphor staff members)

  • The contest will be judged by a panel of WSU English professors

 
 

CONTEST AWARDS

Cash Prizes

 

  • First place in each genre wins $50

  • Second place in each genre wins $30

  • Third place in each genre wins $20

 

Additional Perks

 

  • The winning submission will be published in the spring issue of Metaphor.

  • Runner-up submissions will also be considered for publication in the magazine
