Weber State Pride: Dr. Richard Price Talk

  • October 11
  • 12:00-1:30 PM
  • Shepherd Union 321

Talk Description:

Today there is a Rainbow Scare as elements of society seek to purge LGBTQ voices and identity from the public sphere. The removal of LGBTQ stories from schools and libraries drives home a vision of American identity as straight. While this war on LGBTQ stories has become more visible, its roots go back a century. At base this activism is driven by a vision of queerness as a contagion, that reading a book about a gay boy, a trans kid, queer parents, will turn children queer and this must be prevented because the state has a duty to produce only straight citizens. This talk will explore elements of this history to put the current fight into a broader context.
