HIEE Attributes
High impact educational experience (HIEE) attributes are for courses and activities/experiences outside the classroom. In other words, HIEE-designated experiences can be curricular or co-curricular (for non-credit).
Each HIEE has a set of learning outcomes. As long as the course or the non-credit, co-curricular experience meets the learning outcomes of the specific type of HIEE, faculty and staff can apply to have the course/experience designated with a HIEE attribute.
The following HIEE attributes are available for courses and co-curricular experiences:

LEAD
Leadership
Co-curricular, non-credit experiences only

MENT
Peer Mentor & Tutoring
Co-curricular, non-credit experiences only
Purpose of HIEE Attributes
HIEE course attributes help students, faculty, staff and administrators identify and track similar experiences at Weber State University (WSU).
By designating your course or co-curricular experience, you are helping:
- students more easily find HIEEs in the class schedule and GivePulse, WSU’s student engagement platform
- students record these transformative experiences on their transcripts
- faculty/staff more easily identify and record the innovations they incorporate into the teaching and mentoring aspects of their roles
- programs, departments and colleges more easily demonstrate how they meet the university’s strategic goal of having every student experience at least two HIEEs before graduation
- administrators measure whether WSU is accomplishing our student success goals through HIEEs
Designation Process
Designate your course or co-curricular experience with a HIEE attribute in an application on GivePulse.

Multiple HIEE attributes
Multiple HIEE attributes can be designated to a single course or co-curricular experience. For example, the “SOC 3300 Environment and Society” course can have the SUS and CEL attributes. The course faculty member would complete a single application and indicate the two desired attributes.
Attribute expiration
Courses and co-curricular experiences maintain their HIEE attribute for five years unless the HIEE office is otherwise notified. At the end of five years, the HIEE office will ask the course or co-curricular activity/experience to reapply to designate the attribute for another five years.
