Accounting '18, MTax 19

I was born and raised in South Korea. I came to America for college. I went to BYUI and graduated with Early/Childhood Special Education.

WHY WEBER?

When I got accepted from U of U, UVU, and Weber State University. Weber State University was actually my least favorite option because it was too far from my home and I was planning to commute from my home. However, when I emailed all the three schools with the questions I had, Weber State University promptly responded. I heard back from U of U a few days later and I didn’t hear back anything from UVU. I thought that Weber State University would have many good faculty and other staff who would help me on my way to career.

WHY ACCOUNTING?

My major is Accounting. I took leveling courses, so I didn’t have to graduate with a bachelor’s degree, but will jump to the Master’s program this Summer.

After I graduated with Education degree at BYUI, I worked with little kids for two years, but it wasn’t a good fit for me. I thought about what I really liked and I realized that Accounting would be very fun and good for me. I think that making a big change to Accounting is one of the best decisions I have ever made.

HOW DID THE GODDARD CAREER SERVICES HELP YOU?

When I was near going to the graduate school, I heard that almost all students in the Master of Taxation at Weber State University have a job. I wanted to find a job, but I didn’t know where to start. Also, I wasn’t sure if I could find a job that I wanted because I didn’t have any accounting experiences. When I was in this class, Brett visited the class and talked about the Career Services. I thought that Brett could help me with finding a job. I first attended his resume class and revised my resume. I contacted Brett to have him look at my resume and give me further instructions. He helped me with how to write resume when I didn’t have any experiences in my major. I revised my resume again and contacted him again to help me find a job. He gave me a list of the hiring personnel and told me to tell them that I was referred to them by Brett. One hiring personnel contacted me with the recruiting information. If it wasn’t Brett’s help, no one would contact me.

INCREDIBLE ACCESS

The career services are working so hard to give us information about social meetings and jobs.

Jeffrey Glover writes me back within 12 hours whenever I email him with questions. He also gives us information about scholarships and other important things.

All of the teachers that I’ve met are great and want us to be successful.

ADVICE

Actively participate in the meetings that the Goddard School’s Career Services have. The speakers may give you information you are looking for. Go talk to Brett if you don’t know how to write resume or cover letter, or don’t know where to start to find a job.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW?

I currently got a job offer from the Utah State Tax Commission and I will start working as a tax auditor on May 7th. I will be done with my leveling courses this Semester and will take master’s classes this Summer.
