LAURA
business administration w/ human resource emphasis '21 outstanding graduate

I can’t emphasize enough how amazing Goddard professors are. Their patience and thoughtfulness help me a lot throughout my career.

WHY WEBER STATE?

I am international student from Guayaquil, Ecuador. I came to WSU in Fall 2017 with the Weber Edge Scholarship. I was looking for an opportunity to study abroad and WSU was the best among all universities across the U.S that I applied for.

WHY HUMAN RESOURCE?

I have always been interested in Business and HR, so it was great finding a major that fulfill both areas of study.

INCREDIBLE ACCESS

Goddard is an amazing college to be part of. The professors are always willing to work with you and help you to succeed. I can’t emphasize enough how amazing Goddard professors are. I decided to continue for a Master’s because of Dr. Boyle. Every business core requirements brought me reassurance that this major was for me and that I am loving what I am studying.  Their patience and thoughtfulness help me a lot throughout my career. I would like to also mention that I acquired my HR internship thanks to the Goddard School. The Freshman/ Sophomore Business club was hosting a meeting with Capstone Nutrition VP. That opportunity allowed me to fulfill my internship credit and catch my interest to be involved with the FSBC.

FACULTY IMPACT

The Dean Mouritsen was my Accounting Professor for two semesters. Before I had a hard time understanding Accounting, but he made it look so easy and exciting that I did consider to switch major at some point. Wendy Fox Kirk, Matthew Thue, Michelle Rich, and Rodney Belnap are also a few of my favorite professors that I would like to mentioned. They worked with me helping me to understand class material and address any concerns I had due that English is my second language.

ADVICE

I would recommend to get involved on campus activities as much as they can. It can be stressful, but it taught me a lot of time management and organizing skills. It was a rewarding experience, you get to connect with people of multiple backgrounds, and it teaches you to grow as a person and care helping others. I would also say to not be afraid to take more than 15 credits per semester. It felt crazy to me at first, but I have been able to take 18 credits now and manage to get good grades while working as a part-time employee.

WHAT ARE YOUR CAREER ASPIRATIONS?

I will be graduating May 1st with my Bachelor’s and a minor in Entrepreneurship. I am looking to complete my OPT by May 2022 and hopefully start at Master’s degree in Business Analytics.
