GLENDA
masters of business administration '21 outstanding graduate

I love that the classes are at night and are geared towards working professionals. It was easy to complete the program while still working a full time job. The location allowed for a lot of networking with colleagues that I may not have met otherwise.

WHY WEBER STATE?

After graduating with a degree in Chemical Engineering in 2003 I moved to Utah for a job at ATK Thiokol.  While working there I started thinking about a master's degree and took a few classes towards a master's in Chemical Engineering, but decided I was more interested in non-technical topics so I didn't finish it.  After 13 years at ATK I took a new job at Hill Air Force Base.  Working at Hill I was more involved in production work and the business side of the organization, so when I was presented with the opportunity by the Ogden Air Logistics Complex to pursue a MBA I jumped at the chance.  My husband and several friends had completed the MBA at WSU and encouraged me to do it as well.

WHY MBA?

At the time I started my degree I was working in a job that was focused on the business side of our organization and production, as well as improving it, so the MBA was a natural fit.

INCREDIBLE ACCESS

I love that the classes are at night and are geared towards working professionals.  It was easy to complete the program while still working a full time job.  Being so close to the base, and so many other companies in the same industry allowed for a lot of networking with colleagues that I may not have met otherwise.

FACULTY IMPACT

I enjoyed almost every professor I had at WSU.  Loisanne Kattelman, who taught one of my first classes, was a fantastic teacher and it was great to have a professor who was so enthusiastic and engaged when I was just starting the program and learning a new subject.  Shane Schvaneveldt, who taught Operations and Supply Chain Management was very good at breaking down topics and doing hands on demonstrations that really drove home the points he was teaching and how the worked in real life.  And finally, Henry Kiester, who is Military Outreach at the Center for Continuing Education, was instrumental into helping me get enrolled into the program and work out tuition and any other issues along the way.

ADVICE

Enjoy your time in the classes and take advantage of them while you can.  Make sure to network with other students and get to know new people.

WHERE ARE YOU NOW?

I am currently still working at Hill Air Force Base, currently on the Ground Based Strategic Deterrent Program.  I am planning to continue my career at Hill for the immediate future.
