WHY WEBER STATE?

I was homeschooled after the 3rd grade onward.  When I was about to turn 16, I didn’t really want to attend High School and I was starting to outgrow our homeschool regimen.  One day my Dad asked me about attending Early College at Weber State.  After reviewing the program and scholarship opportunities, Weber State became a no-brainer and I enrolled starting in Fall 2007.

WHY ACCOUNTING?

I have always loved business, finance and economics so I was confident the Business School was the best option. I chose Accounting because I believe that speaking the language of business is an incredibly valuable skill regardless of industry or job title.

INCREDIBLE ACCESS

The small class sizes allow for more informal interactions with faculty and students.  Goddard also offers the same amount of opportunities as any other Business School, but there aren’t as many students at Weber State, which can improve the odds of being selected.  I was fortunate to do an internship in Washington, D.C. for a semester.  Even though it was outside my degree curriculum, everyone at Weber State was incredibly supportive.

Lisa Hopkins was always incredibly encouraging to attend recruiting events. Dr. James Hansen provided key advice as I was selecting where to go to grad school.

ADVICE 

---

Get the best grades you possibly can, that is the best way to prove you have the skill sets from your chosen degree.  Second, start building your network now by reaching out to former students who work in industries or for companies you are interested in.  Third, do everything you can to do an internship each summer, if possible, or participate in a university club.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW?

I have been with TAB Bank for 2+ years.  I have been fortunate to play key roles in growing the bank’s loan servicing product, developing a Voice of the Customer program and growing PPP loans to $150+ million.  Recently, I was honored as the TAB Bank Leader of the Year for my contributions with the initiatives. My goal is to eventually become an Executive of a bank in the next 5-10 years, or sooner obviously!  I want to play a key role in modernizing banking products and services.
