AUTOMOTIVE HOSTS HIGH SCHOOLS IN COMPETITION

The Automotive Technology department had approximately 372 high school students from 29 schools on campus for the November qualifying round of the automotive technology competition on December 8, 2011.  They had 11 out-of-state schools, including Paris, TX and Vale, OR compete in the written competition online.  The qualifying round consists of a knowledge based written test.  The top 3 scoring schools were: Bearlake, Pocatello, and Hillcrest High School.  The top 24 schools have been invited back to compete in the championship round on February 16^th.  The championship round consists of 12 hands-on stations.  Each school is allowed to bring two competitors and one alternate (72 students total).  We will have 24 judges from the local automotive community on hand. The championship round top 3 school participants will win automotive scholarships, tool sets, and tool boxes.  Their schools receive a Chrysler training vehicle for their auto program.  The four runner up schools will receive a Toyota engine block for their automotive program.
