General Information

The Developmental English Learning Center (DELC), is a place where students are encouraged to come to consult with DELC tutors on their writing for their English 0900 and 0955 classes.
The DELC is located in Elizabeth Hall, Room 212.
The DELC is a service that is free to all WSU students--take advantage of it!
Any current Weber State University student in English 0900, 0955, and 1005 is welcome to use DELC services.
Students come to the DELC seeking consultation with grammar, organization, thesis statements, citation, and various other writing-related concerns in their written assignments. A DELC tutor will sit down with you and address your concerns for any writing piece for any course.
The DELC tutors are students from our very own university. They come from a wide variety of backgrounds and majors, from technical writing to nursing.

Appointments & Sessions

No. Because our focus is to support students in improving their writing skills, our practice is to meet with students one-to-one, either face-to-face or online. The revising process is the best way to learn, and we encourage students to be fully engaged in it.

No, we are a drop-in service, so please come on in and put your name on the list to be next in line.
We do have Google Calendar availablity so that students can plan ahead and make appointments in advance, especially during certain times of the semester when more students will be seeking our services, such as during midterms and finals. We will do everything we can to accommodate you, but please don't leave assignments for the last minute!

No worries. Your appointment spot will be given to a waiting student, and you can be next in the drop-in queue. You can also reset your appointment for another time. If you need to cancel, please call our center at 801-626-7941, or simply come in.
Each session is set for approximately 30 minutes. Depending on the availability of tutors and the number of students signed up for that day, sessions may go longer if needed. However, if you find that you need more time, we encourage you to return! Also, if you make an online appointment, you can elect to set your time for an hour if you prefer.
Please bring a printed copy of your writing, any materials or guidelines, and questions or concerns on your writing and/or the requirements.
You and the tutor sit together at one of our tables with a printed copy of your writing assignment. The tutor will ask if he or she may read your paper softly out loud in order for you both to read along together. We hope you will feel comfortable telling the tutor what you would like to work on with the writing, such as organization, development, thesis statement, structure, grammar, or citations. Be sure to ask questions as you go along!
