General Information

What is the DELC?

The Developmental English Learning Center (DELC), is a place where students are encouraged to come to consult with DELC tutors on their writing for the English 950 and 955 classes.

Where is the DELC?

The DELC is located in Elizabeth Hall Room #212.

How much does it cost to use the DELC?

The Writing Center is a service that is free to all WSU students--take advantage of it!

Who can use the DELC?

Any current Weber State University student in English 950 or 955 is welcome to use DELC services.

How can the DELC help me?

Students come to the DELC seeking consultation with grammar, organization, thesis statements, citation, and various other writing-related concerns in their written assignments. A DELC tutor will sit down with you and address your concerns for any writing piece.

Who are the tutors?

The DELC tutors are students from our very own university. They come from a wide variety of backgrounds and majors, ranging everywhere from technical writing to nursing.

Appointments and Sessions

Can just drop off my assignment and pick it up later?

No. Because our focus is to support students in improving their writing skills, our practice is to meet with students one-on-one either face-to-face or online. The revising process is the best way to learn, and we encourage students to be fully engaged in it.

Do I need to make an appointment?

No, we are a drop-in service, so please come on in and put your name on the list to be next in line. We do have a sign-up sheet on which a limited number of students can plan ahead and sign up in advance, especially during certain times of the semester where more students will be seeking our services, such as midterms and finals week. We will do everything we can to accommodate you, but please don't leave assignments for the last minute!

What if I am late to an appointment or need to cancel?

Your sign-up spot will be held for approximately five minutes before being given to a waiting student. If you need to cancel, please call our center at 801-626-7941, or simply come in.

How long are sessions?

Each session can run up to approximately 30 minutes. Depending on the availability of tutors and the number of students signed up for that day, sessions may go longer if needed. However, if you find that you need more time, we encourage you to return!

What do I need to bring?

Please bring a printed copy of your writing, related class materials and guidelines, and questions or concerns on your writing and/or the requirements.

What are sessions like?

You and the tutor sit together at one of our tables with a printed copy of your writing assignment. The tutor will ask if he or she may read your paper softly out loud in order for you both to read along together. We hope you will feel comfortable telling the tutor what you would like to work on with the writing, such as grammar, thesis statement, organization, or citations. Be sure to ask questions as you go along!
