WSU Expanding COVID-19 Testing on Campus

This communication was sent campuswide Nov. 9, 2020.

Dear WSU Students:

Beginning Nov. 16, Weber State University will be making COVID-19 testing available for all members of our campus community. Consistent testing is a tool we can employ to help the state in its efforts to slow the spread of COVID-19.

The increase in testing capacity coincides with a mandate the Utah Department of Health (UDOH) issued Nov. 8, requiring all university and college students in Utah to be tested weekly for COVID-19.

All WSU students living or working on campus and those attending classes in person are expected to be tested for COVID-19 weekly.

Our initial goal is to have every Weber State student living or working on campus and those attending classes in person this semester tested prior to the Thanksgiving break, and implement weekly testing of on-campus students no later than Jan. 1, 2021.

Tests are available free of charge for all students to be tested on campus in an effort to comply with the UDOH mandate. All individuals coming to campus must comply with on-campus mitigation strategies.

How Testing Will Work:

If you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, please fill out the self-reporting form. The university will continue to operate its COVID-19 testing resource for symptomatic individuals, Mon.–Fri. from noon–2 p.m. in the Marriott Allied Health building.

Individuals who are symptom-free will fill out a separate form on the weber.edu/coronavirus page to select the day they will be tested. This form must be completed the day before getting tested. We will not be accepting walk up appointments.

The test itself is a self-administered lower nasal swab, and will take only a few minutes to complete.

Individuals who test positive for COVID-19 will be notified of their results via phone call; all others will be notified via email, usually on the same day they are tested.

Beginning Nov. 16, testing will be available in the Shepherd Union Ballroom C:

  • Mon., Wed. and Fri. 8 a.m. to noon
  • Tues. and Thurs. 1 to 5 p.m.

Testing resources will also be available at WSU Davis. Location and times TBA.

Due to limited supplies, individuals must have a current W# and are eligible to be tested once a week.

Shared Responsibility

We want to remind all of you that it is imperative you take your temperature and self monitor prior to coming to campus for classes or work. If you have a fever or other COVID-19 symptoms, stay home. Do not come to campus (unless you have been instructed to take a COVID-19 test on campus).

Please visit weber.edu/coronavirus for additional information and up-to-date, daily case information. If you have specific questions or concerns, email covid19@weber.edu.

Mitigating the spread of COVID-19 is our shared responsibility and requires prioritizing the safety and well-being of our university community. Thank you for doing your part by following these requirements to help keep us all safe.
