Events Protocols Through March 15

This communication was sent campuswide Jan. 27, 2021.

Dear Students, Faculty and Staff:

I am writing to update you on our COVID-19 protocols on campus.

Governor Cox and the Utah Department of Health have issued the latest public health order (UPHO 2021-3) regarding COVID-19 restrictions, which are scheduled to be in place from Jan. 22 through Feb. 22.

The university is extending its current event guidelines until we return from spring break on March 15. These event guidelines are subject to change based on new developments or recommendations from regional and state public health officials.

During the month of February, we will work with pre-selected event organizers and venue coordinators to test our ability to expand the number of people who can safely attend events on our campuses while adhering to state and local health guidelines.

Our goal is to conduct these test cases and evaluate the protocols in place, with the hope that we might be able to allow more and larger events to be held in person later in the spring semester.

Several factors will inform our ability to hold larger events in the near future, including, but not limited to:

  • COVID-19 transmission rates in our local counties and on campus
  • Venue capacity
  • Indoor versus outdoor venues
  • Nature of event activity (e.g., dances, high-respiratory activities, etc.)
  • WSU sponsored activities versus external, third-party events

By piloting these test runs in the coming weeks, we hope to develop guidelines for an eventual phased-in approach to hosting more events at Weber State, while minimizing the spread of COVID-19 in our community.
Please visit weber.edu/coronavirus for a complete list of all our ongoing COVID-19 protocols.
