8th Annual WSU Service Day of Remembrance

Serve the community in honor of someone who has passed away or for those who embody service in the community. Open to students, community members, faculty and staff. 

Wednesday, Oct. 9

  • 7:30 a.m. - Breakfast and orientation at project site
  • 8 a.m. - noon - first shift of projects
  • noon - 1 p.m. - Lunch
  • 1-4 p.m. - second shift of projects

Volunteer opportunities will include:

Milkweed Planting at Discovery Loop Trailhead

Time period: 8 a.m. - noon & 1-4 p.m. 
Join us for this exciting opportunity to plant milkweed up the trailhead for the butterflies! Volunteers will plant take up to 500 balls of milkweed seeds throughout the trailhead. Volunteers are encouraged to wear appropriate clothing and close-toed shoes for hiking. Other trail maintenance and habitat restoration may take place of all milkweed seeds are planted before the end of the day. A water bottle and water will be provided. Volunteers are encouraged to participate for at least two hours. Carpooling is encouraged to this site.

Ogden Nature Center

Time period: 8:30 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Weber State University will work with 75 students in their senior year from DaVinci Academy to restore natural habitat, clear invasive weed species and learn about sustainable ways to improve and protect the environment. Volunteers are asked to volunteer for at least two hours. Lunch will be provided. A shutle will be provided during four time periods of the day (8 a.m., 10 a.m., Noon, and 2 p.m.). Please plan transportation accordingly if you are unable to stay for the duration.

If you are unable to attend the morning orientation, instructions will be given at each site regarding service details and how to record service hours.

Participants are responsible for transportation to the off-site locations.
