Information for Implementation - CDEV Handshake

Purpose

Students learn how to create a high-quality Handshake Profile.

Steps for Activity Implementation for Programs and Courses:

1. Students and Administrators watch the videos and review the provided resources. This can be done individually or in small groups.

2. Students apply the information to their own Handshake profile.

3. Students use the rubric to self-assess their Handshake profile and make edits as needed, then turn their Handshake profile in to their administrator for review.

4. Administrators use the rubric to review the student’s Handshake profile and write down both positive and constructive feedback. Administrators meet individually with students to review the feedback and help the student create a high-quality Handshake profile. Repeat this process as needed.

a. Administrators can request a Handshake account and can contact careerservices@weber.edu with any questions.

5. When completed, students check off the item on their personal CDEV Map. When all of the components on the CDEV Map are complete, students submit a link to their Handshake profile through the Impact in GivePulse for their Administrator to verify.

Optional Activity

After reviewing the Handshake profile information and creating a draft, students meet together to provide feedback to each other. If their current roles are similar, students can work together to write strong content for their profiles.

Steps for Activity Implementation for Individuals

1. Students watch the video and review the provided resources.

2. Students apply the information to their own Handshake profile.

3. Students use the rubric to self-assess their Handshake profile and make edits as needed.

4. Students meet with a professional in their intended career field, or with a Career Mentor at WSU’s Career Station, to have their profile reviewed. The reviewer should use the CDEV Handshake resources and/or rubric to provide both positive and constructive feedback. Students implement the feedback and seek additional feedback as needed in order to create a high-quality profile.

5. When completed, students check off the item on their personal CDEV Map. When all of the components on the CDEV Map are complete, students submit a link to their Handshake profile through the Impact in GivePulse for their administrator to verify.
