Aquatics and Safety (AQS) Program
The Head Lifeguard assists the AQS Coordinator with operations and programming of the AQS program. Duties include assisting with swim lesson programming and scheduling,planning and supervising events, managing risk, evaluating lifeguards and water safety instructors, providing customer service to participants, researching and proposing equipment/programming needs, and other duties as assigned.
The Safety Team member assists the AQS Coordinator with risk management for Campus Recreation facilities. Duties include providing First Aid for Campus Recreation events, teaching American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR, and First Aid classes, auditing Campus Recreation employees on safety skills, and other duties as assigned.
Water Safety Instructor (WSI)
The WSI is responsible for teaching the learn-to-swim program following American Red Cross protocols. Duties include ensuring the safety of participants utilizing the pool and facility area around the pool, managing risk, teaching lessons to ARC standards, providing customer service to participants, and the setup and take down of swim lessons.
The lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the safety of participants utilizing the Swenson pool on the WSU campus. Duties include scanning and patrolling pool areas for safety and risk management, providing care in the case of an emergency or injury, enforcing facility and program policies, providing customer service to participants, and providing daily upkeep/maintenance of office and pool facilities.
