Department of Art and Design (DOVAD) students enjoy a variety of travel-study opportunities each year. Trips range from a few days to several weeks and have included Drawing on the Land: a week long sketching and drawing trip to a Capitol Reef National Park, The LA Trip: a busy long-weekend of museum and gallery visits in Los Angeles and Photographing the West: A road trip to learn about history and photography in places like Big Sur and the Sierra Nevada Mountians. Every-other year, students look forward to study in Italy during the Venice Biennale, one of the most important international exhibitions of contemporary art. Based in Venice, students study and write about the myriad exhibitions mounted by participating nations, visit important art historical sites in northern Italy, and take short excursions to nearby European cities on their free weekends. This and many other trips include study for course credit, and tuition may be supported by one of DOVAD’s scholarships . In addition, students may apply for the the Carolyn R. Nebeker Art History Scholarship for independent travel-study to Europe. Travel-study offerings are broadly advertised within the department and vary from year-to year.
