WSU to Celebrate Fall Commencement on Dec. 11

OGDEN, Utah – Weber State University officials are expecting more than 1,300 candidates for graduation this December. WSU will award degrees and institutional certificates on Dec. 11 during its 134th commencement ceremony at the Dee Events Center. The commencement exercises will begin at 1 p.m.

Unlike the university’s spring commencement, when individual convocations are held separately from the main program, WSU’s business school and six academic colleges will confer all degrees and certificates during this one inclusive ceremony.

All graduates attending the commencement ceremony will receive a commemorative medallion in recognition of their accomplishment. The medallions will only be presented to graduates in attendance at the commencement exercise.

“Putting Students Through,” a program honoring parents, spouses and friends of graduates, will precede the ceremony at 9 a.m. in the Shepherd Union Ballroom.

Pamela J. Atkinson, longtime health care practitioner and community activist/advocate, will deliver the keynote commencement address and will be awarded an honorary degree. The student graduate speaker will be Joshua Pedersen, of Murray, Utah, who is earning his bachelor’s degree in communication with an emphasis in public relations and advertising.

The event will be streamed live via the Web at weber.edu/commencement/. The program will be rebroadcast on KUEN-TV (Channel 9) Dec. 19 from 8 to 10 p.m.

ASL services will be available in seating section S at the base of portal 17. Parking on campus will be free throughout the day Dec. 11.

WSU began holding winter commencement in 1996 because of the closure of the Val A. Browning Center for major renovations.  In 1999, the university’s Board of Trustees decided to make the semi-annual ceremony a permanent event.
